Sugar Baby Watermelon is an icebox type of watermelon widely adapted, produces an abundance of small 8 x 8-1/2 inch fruits. Sugar Baby Watermelon rind is tough, thin, and dark green. It has a very sweet, firm, bright red flesh with small dark brown seeds. Delicious!
The first of its genre and still the standard compact watermelon. Saves space in the garden and in the refrigerator. Among the earliest in its class, Sugar Baby grows 10lb fruits, dark green outside, and deep red inside. Thin, hard, tough rind with distinct stripes when immature, becoming almost black when ripe. The only thing oversized is the incredibly sweet flavor. Compact vines produce plenty of fruits packed with sweet red flesh. Agricultural Research Service scientists have discovered that watermelon, known to contain large amounts of the antioxidant lycopene, is also an excellent source of the amino acid citrulline which is important for wound healing, cell division, and removing toxins from the body.
