For almost 60 years we have been breeding roses on our family farm in Shropshire, carefully creating wonderful new varieties for you to enjoy.

STILL MADE BY HAND

Today, most of our growing is still carried out by hand, just as it was at the very beginning. Every plant that we sell has been hand-budded, a traditional and intricate skill carried out by our experts millions of times each year.

A LIFETIME OF BREEDING EXELLENCE

In the early 1950s David Austin set out to create a more beautiful rose. Sixty years on, this simple objective remains. Rose breeding is often described as being as much an art as a science.

All David Austin roses have a collective style and reflect one man’s vision. All have beautiful blooms and in most cases wonderful fragrance held on graceful attractive shrubs. A garden of these outstanding roses is hard to beat for sheer exuberance of flower and fragrance.

Roses are easy to grow and are remarkably tolerant. However, with a little extra care and attention your roses will really thrive. WHERE TO PLANT A POTTED CLIMBING ROSE

Select where your rose is going to go. We recommend following these guidelines:

  • Make sure the rose has some sun, ideally at least 4 hours of sunlight a day.
  • Generally, the more sun the better. However, in the hottest areas, shade from the afternoon sun can be beneficial.
  • Ensure the rose has enough space, so that the roots do not suffer from intense competition from neighboring plants, including trees and hedges.
  • Ensure the rose has a structure to 'climb'. You will need to tie the stems onto the supporting structure as it grows.

Roses are incredibly versatile plants and can be planted in an array of different positions.
