This cultivar of the pecan tree family is well known for its hearty nut size, lusciously plump kernels, and good resistance to disease. The Kiowa Pecan tree originated in Texas and is one of the most precocious members of the pecan cultivars. It is a cross between Mahan x Desirable.

The tree produces heavily as a young tree and is easy to train its structure into a central leader. The harvest date for these large pecans is in the fall. Although some years as a mature tree it may have a tendency to overbear and in these years nut quality could suffer. Mechanical shaking can help alleviate this problem during years of excessive nut production.

The Kiowa features 48 nuts per pound with 53% kernel. Its lush green foliage adds a touch of class to any landscape.  Its low-maintenance requirements make it an exceptionally easy tree to plant in your yard.  It will continue to offer beautiful foliage and delicious nuts for years to come.

The Kiowa Pecan tree is a Type-2 pollinator and requires a Type-1, such as the Cape Fear, Creek, Desirable, or Mandan to produce pecans. Scab resistance is varying with some locations reporting susceptibility to scab and others reporting high scab resistance.

Grows best in USDA planting zones 6-9 across the southern United States. Grows exceptionally well in warm climates including Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas.

Plant the Kiowa tree in full sun and well-drained soil to produce high-quality nuts with large size. Has a large, extensive root system. Mulching to the top of the root ball will help maintain moisture. These trees need lots of water as young trees.
